Types of Fixed Asset Tags

The types of fixed asset tags you’ll use will depend on your needs. For example, with construction equipment tracking, you may want to consider using a solution which integrates GPS tracking. With GPS tracking, you’ll be able to monitor asset location in real-time.

Generally, you’ll build your fixed asset tracking processes up by starting off with QR code asset tags or barcodes. These will open up many of the helpful features fixed asset tracking software can provide.

You’ll be able to customise your QR codes and barcodes. So, it’ll be possible to use metal QR tags or sticker tags, depending on how much wear and tear the tools and equipment you’re tracking goes through.

How To Implement Fixed Asset Tagging

There is a simple step by step process behind implementing your fixed asset tagging processes. Your goal will be to save time and money by increasing asset visibility and reducing asset retrieval times, as well as improve other processes fixed asset management can help with.

1. Create Your Fixed Asset Register

The first step is to audit your assets and create a fixed asset register. If you’re familiar with spreadsheets, you’ll be familiar with the limitations spreadsheets have.

However, if you have a spreadsheet of a fixed asset inventory, you’ll be able to use this in the first step towards better, more automated fixed asset tracking.

Knowing what you own will help inform your fixed asset management decisions, but it’s still essential at this stage your inventory is as up to date as possible. This way, you’ll avoid dreaded ghost assets and zombie assets.

2. Choose Your Asset Tags

When you have a register of your fixed assets, it’ll help steer the next steps of your decision.

Choosing your asset tags is a lot simpler when you can see which fixed assets require rugged labels and which only need sticker tags.

If you want to purchase QR code asset tags, you can look through our options below. We also do custom labels, such as tiny QRs and iron-on tags, so don’t hesitate to ask!

3. Choose Your Fixed Asset Tracking Software

Knowing which tags you need and which assets you own will help you decide what you’ll need your fixed asset management software to do. For example, if you can see that your fixed asset register is largely made up of laptops, you’ll want to opt for a software that has a lot of IT asset management features.

When you’re choosing a fixed asset tracking software, you’ll be able to start a free trial to ensure that the software does everything you need it to.

If you want a demo, you’ll be able to book one using the button below.

This way, you’ll have absolute clarity that your fixed asset management software has time-saving and cost-saving features.

As you’ll already have the tags, you’ll be able to start testing straight away and ensure you’re making the right decision. You’ll be able to implement fixed asset tagging on a few of your assets to test before you scale your solution.

4. Expand it to your entire business

Once you’ve trialled, purchased, and started to use your fixed asset management software, the next step is to expand asset tracking to your entire business.

This involves implementing your fixed asset tagging processes across your business, tagging all of the assets you have on your register.

It’s possible to import your fixed asset register into your fixed asset management software, including fixed asset tag information, so that once you’re scaling, all you need to do is start tracking.

Tool Tracking Tips: Optimise your operations with a construction tool tracking app

When it comes to construction, minimising operational costs, speeding up your processes, and ensuring deadlines are met is essential. What if you could do all of this with one system? This is where a construction tool tracking app comes in.

With a construction tool tracking app, you’ll be able to:

  • Save time
  • Minimise operational costs
  • Speed up operations
  • Lose fewer assets
  • Gain more accountability
  • And more!

How? By logging, monitoring, and controlling your tools in one, streamlined, easy-to-use system.

What is a Construction Tool Tracking App?

A construction tool tracking app is a cloud-based asset management system. This means you can have an app on your phone which is linked to a web portal, allowing you to see any and all changes to your assets from anywhere.

It works by logging your tools, adding information, and tracking them with asset tags. In essence, you’ll be creating unique profiles for your assets. This means that any changes in status, usability, or location will be logged against the asset itself, ready for quick viewing, editing, or monitoring.

The asset tags, whether they’re QR codes, barcodes, or RFID tags, will allow you to view an asset’s information, by linking the physical asset to it’s digital, in-app profile. All you need to do is scan the tag to view, edit, and update asset information.

So, if you want to use your construction tool tracking app to monitor maintenance, you’ll be able to do so. All you need to do is scan the asset’s tag, then add an issue in the asset’s profile. This issue will be visible to your maintenance team, who can organise and prioritise their maintenance using this system.

How Construction Equipment Asset Management Helps

An asset tracking system gives you full visibility and control over your assets. Gaps occur and money and time are lost when you can’t see necessary data in one system, and you have to search for it.

Construction equipment asset management gives you a system where you can see everything you need related to your tools. For example, location tracking is possible thanks to asset tagging, meaning asset retrieval times are minimised.

You’ll be able to track maintenance, costs, expenses, repairs, routine maintenance, and more, all in one place, against specific assets. This means that you can see which assets need to be replaced and when, simplifying your asset lifecycle management processes.

Using Reporting With your Construction Tool Tracking App

Your construction tool tracking app will speed up, simplify, and automate your processes. All of the data you collect on-the-go will update across your asset management system in real-time.

What this means is that every scan of an asset’s tag is instantly recorded in your web portal, too, meaning you’ll be able to view this change and see which assets are on-site and have been seen and used.

You’ll collect data against unique assets, including maintenance, cost, and location information. This data can be brought together in an online reporting feature.

With reports, you’ll be able to see all of the maintenance assets have undergone in a given time. All of the movements assets have been through will also be visible, as well as any other financial changes.

Saving and Exporting Asset Tracking Reports

Reports are where you view all of this data in one place, ready for exporting, and usable to make clearer, more transparent, better-informed business decisions.

If you’re looking for full automation, with your construction equipment asset tracking, itemit is also integrating GPS tracking and fixed RFID tracking. To find out more, you can contact us with the button below.

Why you Need Computer Asset Tracking Software

Why you Need Computer Asset Tracking Software

Computers will run a large portion of your business. Because of this, you’ll need to know which models you own, how well they’re running, and which software and user-accesses are linked to them. This is where computer asset tracking software comes in.

With computer asset tracking software, you’ll be able to create an asset inventory of your computers, add crucial information, and track your computers with greater control and visibility than a spreadsheet can provide.

computer asset tracking software

What is Computer Asset Tracking Software?

Computer asset tracking software is a system where you can add computers as unique assets. What this means is that each of your computers will have their own profile and any changes, such as maintenance or PAT testing, can be logged against a specific computer.

What this means is you’ll create an asset history against a computer, being able to see which of your computers have needed more maintenance and which are running smoothly.

This provides you with the visibility and control you need to see how all of your computers are running by breaking the system down and giving you the ability to monitor changes against individual computers.

With computer asset tracking software, you’ll also be able to use QR code asset tags or barcodes to retrieve and edit asset profiles in your system quickly. All it takes is a scan, and then you can log any changes to users, maintenance, pricing, or location against a computer.

Tagging and Tracking with QR Code Asset Tags

Ultimately, this makes your IT asset management quick and easy, allowing you to view and control what you own and how it’s being used.

The Benefits of IT Asset Management

As you can add any information you need against computers, you get a digital system which shows you exactly what you need to see. Using reports, you’ll be able to look for specific things, such as which equipment is due for a PAT test.

Computer asset tracking software and IT asset management give you greater control of your assets. You also get greater connectivity with your assets, being able to view and edit them online in a digital profile, as well as in person.

This level of control makes your operations a lot simpler and a lot more visible. This means that you’ll be able to plan for maintenance better, minimise asset downtime, and utilise your asset management tools to get a better financial picture of your assets.

All of this saves your business the time and money it needs to scale, improve, and grow, while also helping you optimise your asset usage.

Using Computer Asset Tracking Software to Track Maintenance

Tracking computer maintenance is essential to make sure your business is running smoothly, for example, and computer asset tracking software makes this process quick, easy, and transparent.

All you need to do is set a reminder for when a PAT test is due, and then you’ll receive an email and a notification when the maintenance is necessary. Before this, you’ll be able to book the asset out with equipment checkout functionality, meaning everyone using your computer asset tracking software will be able to see the computer will be unavailable in that timeframe.

bookings and check in check out

This allows for better planning and better time management. When the maintenance is completed, you’ll also be able to add comments, attachments, and certificates to show the results of the PAT test, creating a full asset history for you to use, export, and maintain.

The Best Practices for Using an IT Asset Register

Best Practices for Using an IT Asset Register

An IT asset register gives you the control and confidence you need over your IT assets. With an IT asset register, you’ll be able to view crucial financial information, as well as verify that all of your colleagues have everything that they need to perform their duties.

So, what is an IT asset register? It’s effectively a list of all of your assets related to Information Technology. So, you can index your laptops and phones, for example, and information added to them.

With IT asset management software, you’ll be able to add more information to your assets, meaning you can track depreciation, maintenance, asset damage, all in one easy-to-use place.

To find out more about IT asset registers, you can read our blog: What is an IT Asset Register?

Creating your IT Asset Register

You may already have a list of your IT assets, but if this is in a spreadsheet, you’ll already know that it’ll be difficult to find things, edit information, and update everything.

So, the best way to create your IT asset register is to use a streamlined IT asset management app. This way, you’ll be able to create your inventory, add tags and asset information, and start tracking your IT assets with ease.

You’ll be able to import your IT asset data from your spreadsheet, but you can also start from scratch. IT asset management systems give you greater control over the information you can add to assets, and they increase the visibility you have over assets.

equipment asset management software and ITAM

So, what you’ll do is log your assets as digital profiles in your IT asset management system, which will then create your IT asset register as you go.

Then, you’ll use asset tagging to link your physical assets to their digital profiles. This way, you’ll just need to scan the tag to edit an asset’s profile, with no need to search for them on your system, as you’d need to with a spreadsheet.

There are a few asset tag options at your disposal:

  • QR Code Asset Tags: These contain unique information and are the easiest to implement and use in your IT asset management.
  • Barcodes: Barcodes are similar to QR code asset tags, but they can hold less information and are less customisable.
  • RFID tags: RFID tagging is also a possibility. It allows you to scan tags without needing a “line-of-sight”. There are many drawbacks and benefits to using RFID tagging, which you can ask us about by clicking the button below.

How an IT Asset Management System Will Help your Business

Overall, the ability to track, monitor, and export asset information helps give you the necessary control over assets and their profiles.

With an IT asset management system, you’ll be able to add maintenance history to your IT asset register, against unique assets, for example. This way, you’ll be able to view which assets have had multiple bouts of maintenance and make a decision about whether or not they’re more economical to replace.

You’ll also be able to book assets out and track your asset finances, along with a lot more functionality that you simply don’t get with a spreadsheet.

How to Use Small Tool Tracking Software for Construction Equipment Tracking

How to Use Small Tool Tracking Software for Construction Equipment Tracking

Using small tool tracking software can help prevent many of the problems your construction company may be facing. For example, if you’re experiencing a lot of theft, small tool tracking software can help you view where your equipment has been and where it is.

Leveraging small tool tracking software to improve your construction equipment tracking can help save you time and money, as well as giving you more control over financial information related to your assets. You’ll be able to create an exportable fixed asset register, which you can use to make better informed business-related decisions.

To find out more about fixed asset registers, you can read our blog about how to create a fixed asset register.

Why you Need Construction Equipment Tracking

Tracking construction equipment is essential. There are a lot of industry-specific problems that arise, such as theft, asset loss, and a lack of visibility over assets.

Not only can construction equipment tracking benefit you by showing you which assets you own and where they are, but it will also improve certain areas of your operations.

For example, with construction equipment tracking, you’ll be able to find and retrieve tools faster for use. So, if you find yourself looking for that tool for too long, having a system for construction equipment tracking can prevent this.

Overall, construction equipment tracking speeds up your operations and saves you money while you’re doing so. Therefore, not only are you making more money by delivering projects further behind a deadline, but you’re also saving it with the additional accountability construction equipment tracking provides.

How Small Tool Tracking Software Can Help With Construction Equipment Tracking

Small tool tracking software gives you simple, streamlined functionality which makes the above a lot more effective.

Using small tool tracking software means that the process of retrieving assets faster and losing fewer is more automated than it would be if you were using a spreadsheet.

Spreadsheets require a lot of manual input and a lot of time to keep them up to date, and even then it’s unlikely these spreadsheets will remain up to date.

With small tool tracking software, however, many of your construction equipment tracking processes are automated within a cloud-based system which updates in real-time.

You’ll be able to use asset tagging to track the location of equipment. QR codes, barcodes, and RFID asset tags can help you create an asset history of locations. This can show you which assets have gone missing, which have been received on-site, and which are currently in use.

You can also use GPS tracking to see where assets are in real-time, meaning that if an asset gets stolen, you’ll still be able to retrieve it.

Additional Small Tool Tracking Software Features

There are many other features small tool tracking software provides you with for your construction equipment tracking.

For example, you’ll be able to track maintenance with reminders and issues management and subsequently minimise asset downtime. You’ll also be able to supplement this and show who is using what and when with bespoke bookings and equipment checkout features.

How Fixed RFID Readers Will Transform your Asset Tracking

How Fixed RFID Readers Will Transform your Asset Tracking

How Fixed RFID Readers Will Transform your Asset Tracking

Asset tracking has many benefits which will optimise your operations. Whether you’re working in an office, in the field for a construction company, in the healthcare industry, or in any other sector, asset tracking can save you time and money.

Asset tracking software works by creating unique digital doubles of your items. This creates a fixed asset register which you can interact with and edit, adding crucial information such as maintenance information or where assets are.

Using fixed RFID readers can make your asset tracking processes even faster, even easier, and even more automatic.

fixed RFID asset tracking engineering

What is RFID Asset Tracking?

To make tracking unique asset profiles even easier, you can use unique asset tags. Most commonly, companies opt for barcodes or QR code asset tags. This way, you can attach the tag to an asset to link the physical asset to its digital profile. Then, every time you scan the tag, the asset’s profile will appear, ready for editing.

Upon scanning, last seen location data will update, too, which creates a full history of where your assets have been.

RFID asset tracking differs in a couple of ways. RFID tags don’t need to be scanned with a “line of sight” as QR codes or barcodes do. What this means is that you’ll be able to hide an RFID tag and still be able to scan it.

This is necessary if you’re tracking assets where you can’t use barcodes or QR codes. For example, if you’re tracking priceless paintings, you won’t be able to use a QR code or barcode to do so. In this case, you’ll need to use RFID asset tracking.

To find out more about how itemit’s RFID system is being implemented in the Ministry of Defence to track priceless paintings, check out the link below.

What’s the Difference Between Fixed RFID and Handheld RFID?

While barcodes and QR codes can be scanned with your smartphone, RFID scanners aren’t automatically integrated with your phone. This means that you’ll need third party readers to implement RFID asset tracking. These readers will either be fixed or handheld.

Most commonly, you’ll be using handheld readers to implement RFID asset tracking. With a handheld reader, you’ll use BlueTooth to link it with your asset tracking app, and then you’ll click a button to scan tags, much like with a barcode scanner. How far away you can scan from will depend on the RFID tags themselves.

Fixed readers are attached to specific points in your building. Every time an asset with an RFID tag attached moves past them, the fixed readers will pick up on the movement. As fixed readers have antennas, they’ll also be able to pick up on which direction an asset is moving in, meaning it’ll automatically be logged whether an asset is entering or leaving a room.

How Fixed RFID Readers Revolutionise Asset Tracking

Using fixed RFID readers promises a new level of automation. Instead of tracking locations with manual input, such as with handheld readers or QR codes, everything is automatically updated for you.

In practice, this means that if you’re tracking tools and equipment, whenever a tool moves out of a construction lot, your asset tracking system will update this automatically. Whenever your tools then enter a construction lot, your asset tracking system will update this automatically.

Fixed RFID readers give you fully automated accountability and transparency over asset location, ultimately transforming your asset tracking processes.

To find out more about if RFID is right for you, you can contact the team at team@itemit.com, or give us a call on 01223 421611. To start a free trial of the itemit asset tracking system, you can fill in the form below.
